Quality is key to Pensord Award success

Quality is key to Pensord Award success

Leading magazine printer Pensord has been awarded the Wales Quality Award for Manufacturing 2011 - the first time a first year entrant has triumphed in the 17 year history of the awards.

Ponllanfraith-based Pensord came out on top in the manufacturing sector in a ceremony held at Cardiff's City Hall. The achievement was based on the submission of an 18,000 word entry that focused on ten aspects of the printer's business - from Leadership and Strategy, to Quality to Customer Satisfaction, all looking at the quality throughout the organisation.

Pensord managing director Darren Coxon said: "This is a major endorsement for Pensord and the quality inherent throughout our business. Huge thanks must go particularly to three members of our management team, Louise Williams, Caryll Maggs and Gareth Williams who put together the submission. We didn't anticipate winning the award after being advised that no first time entrant has ever won in its 17 year history, so it is especially pleasing to be successful over manufacturing companies from across Wales."

The achievement comes after a grueling judging process that was completed with a day-long assessment by three judges who scrutinised the business back in October.

Leader of the team which assessed their submission, Bob Connell, said: "Pensord are worthy winners in the manufacturing category, which is even more impressive when you realise that there were more contenders from the manufacturing sector than for several years."

Pensord is one of the leading sheet-fed printers in the country, providing a specialist service to magazine publishers with a 'one-stop-shop' facility from pre-press digital and web-based processes, through material printing, binding and comprehensive finishing services, to product distribution via mail. As a printer of over 380 regular publications, Pensord is a pioneer in delivering content for publishers online, on paper and on the move. The company employs over 140 people.

The company has picked up a number of awards over the years, including the UK-wide (printing) Company of the Year and People Development Company of the Year for Wales. A Wales Quality Award is considered the most cost effective business improvement tool an organisation can use.
