The Environmental Forum is a BPIF community that looks to provide an industrywide network and platform to work to support, sustain and develop the industry. This community is a network for likeminded people in the industry to discuss environmental topics with an aim to set environmental and sustainability standards and best practice for the sector. It is also a source of information and networking support for those working on environmental and sustainability issues in their own day-to-day roles.
Chaired by Anthony Rowell of Tradeprint, the Environmental Forum has been a platform for members to learn about the latest environmental concerns and legislation and to share experiences and best practice. These regular meetings have been strongly supported by both members and non-members. The success of the Environmental Forum has resulted in the creation of additional working parties, focused on looking at various legislation in greater detail and reporting findings back to the main forum. Inviting experts to these working parties enables the groups to drill down into the nuances of the legislation, much further than is possible in the full forum, and decide how best to keep members informed. The Forum has recently produced guides for BPIF members on the Plastic Packaging Tax, EU Deforestation Regulations, and the packaging Extended Producer Responsibility regulations, which have been invaluable in helping members navigate their way through the complex maze of environmental legislation. It has a strong focus on ESG requirements, the Environmental Forum will be looking at how best to help members complete the various environmental questionnaires required by the industry’s customers. It will also be focusing on new greenwashing legislation coming out of the UK and the EU, however without losing focus on its function to facilitate the sharing of best practice and allowing the asking of the ‘stupid’ question.
