British and Irish Printing Industries Council hold second meeting

After its launch in Dublin last July the British and Irish Printing Industries Council (BIPIC) had its second meeting - this time held in Belfast - on Wednesday 24 November. Delegates arrived from all countries of the UK and Ireland and addressed a full agenda of key topics with BPIF President Ken Iddon in the chair. National Adviser Dale Wallis gave an excellent presentation on developments in Health, Safety and Environmental issues followed by a wide-ranging discussion. Concern was expressed about varying standards of enforcement across the European Union. Among other issues discussed were the changing shape of industrial relations and working practices in printing, overcoming bureaucracy in print tendering, corporate standards and relationships with Europe. Clive Fricker, BPIF director and secretary of BIPIC said, ''The Council has now established a real working relationship with an agreed format and a desire to tackle important challenges across the two islands and beyond.'' The next Council meeting is planned for Edinburgh on 24 March.
