The BPIF celebrate National Apprenticeship Week

The BPIF celebrated National Apprenticeship Week with a visit to Jaguar Land Rover, a Letterpress workshop and the second edition of the Apprentice Newsletter

On 6 March, the BPIF took a number of their apprentices to Jaguar Land Rover as part of National Apprentice Week. The apprentices were hosted in the company's Education Business Partnership Centre, a purpose-built facility for education in the middle of an industrial environment.
The day consisted of a behind the scenes guided tour of the cutting edge facility by a member of their staff, this provided the apprentices with an insight into Jaguar Land Rover's state of the art manufacturing site. They also took part in a variety of learning activities focused around lean manufacturing processes.

The day was enjoyed by all and was a great opportunity for the apprentices to see how another manufacturing industry operates and take away what they had learnt back to their own companies. Alice Murray of Hunts and a BPIF Apprentice Council member commented, "For National Apprenticeship Week, I was lucky enough to go along and visit Jaguar Land Rover. This was a great opportunity to see how the UK's largest car manufacturer operates! I really enjoyed learning and seeing how a different type of business from the one I work in operates and how the processes involved in car manufacturing can relate similarly to the way the printing industry operates. The tour around the factory was a brilliant experience and the team building exercises were great fun!"

Another apprentice who took part in the day, Matthew Edgerton of Precision Colour Printing said, "I think the experience at Jaguar Land Rover has opened my eyes to other areas of manufacturing and lean processes, I hope some of the ideas I gathered from Jaguar Land Rover can be used at PCP."

The day was organised by the BPIF to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week. The BPIF offers a wide variety of apprenticeship courses. Click here to find out more.

In addition a group of BPIF Apprentices partook in a letter press workshop at St Brides on 7 March and the Apprentice Council produced and mailed the second edition of the Apprentice Newsletter, which was kindly printed by Ian Wilton at Oxuniprint.
