Students discover printing past and future at the 2016 Shine Awards
Over 130 secondary school children and their teachers from 28 schools from all across the UK travelled to Stationers’ Hall in the City of London on 21st June to receive their awards in the Shine School Media Awards 2016. BPIF are proud sponsors of the Shine Awards, which were presented by Dr Simon Heffer, Senior Columnist at the Daily and Sunday Telegraph and Louise Court, Director of Editorial Strategy and Content for Hearst Magazines UK.
The BPIF Training team demonstrated an Adana Letterpress as well as a 3D printer to the students, both of which they were equally impressed by. Two members of the BPIF Apprentice Council were also in attendance, the Chairman, Josh Levett-Thomas and South Eastern region representative, Sophie Chuter. They were on hand to provide information and answer any questions about print apprenticeships.
There was a series of Special Awards, including the Shine 2016 BPIF Award for Exceptional Overall Promise, which was presented to two schools, Dollar Academy School and Oundle School. These winning schools were each awarded with a BPIF ‘Introduction to Print’ course for 10 students, to allow them to learn more about the industry and the fundamentals in printing processes.
