Whilst DRUPA has shown us an evolution of options and what investing in the future looks like- decision making never gets easier and financial modelling still remains difficult as ever!- what again strikes us is the issue of talent and we need people who can communicate and translate solutions and innovation to customers. We need positive people working in our businesses who are positive and engaged.

If we can achieve this we get more than the power of one plus one and so now is the time to also look at investing in people and again setting out to give them a picture that they can relate to. The BPIF can help here in so many ways and so its worth calling us to look at the services and support we can provide to help this energising process. Its an investment well worth making and the investment is low risk/high yield.

A recent gallop poll identified that amongst the workforce 61% of staff were NOT ENGAGED with a business, 20% ACTIVELY DISENGAGED, and only 19% ENGAGED. Its important to analyse this and seek measures to improve this as ENGAGED staff are more productive and the businesses with more of them in it more profitable and better places to work in. Engagement can be measured and it can be improved and this will improve the profitability of your business.

A start is to look at what responses you might get from asking the following question with the feedback covering, strongly agree, agree, neither agree or disagree, disagree, strongly disagree.

  1. I know what is expected of me at work?
  2. I have all the materials and equipment I need to do my work well?
  3. I have the opportunity to do what I do best every day at work?
  4. In the last 7 days I have received recognition or praise for good work?
  5. My manager or someone at work seems to care about me as a person
  6. There is someone at work who encourages my development
  7. My opinion seems to count
  8. The mission and purpose of my company makes me feel like my work is important?
  9. My colleagues are committed to doing quality work?
  10. I have a good friend at work?
  11. In the last six months I have talked with someone about my progress?
  12. In the last year I have had opportunities to learn and develop at work?

Its worth asking your team this and putting a plan together and its also worth calling us to see how we can help support positive change and getting the best out of your team
