Motivating-who Motivates the Motivator?

At a recent event organised by our marketing team for the Office Supplies chain - BOSS - Clive Woodward discussed his philosophy of coaching and how he saw the use of IT - ‘whoever controls information wins the war!' he took this philosophy into preparing for the Rugby World Cup and gave the players responsibility for improving and driving their own performance. He gave them ‘laptops' and invested in technology that mapped an individual's playing performance.

The Players would come to training and feedback sessions and discuss with the team and coaches how they individually were going to improve and what they had learned.

This is a powerful and dynamic reversal where the individual takes responsibility, but also is given the tools and the responsibility to give input into decision making.

Not everyone has such individuals in their team and Clive Woodward wanted to establish who was a ‘sponge' with a thirst for knowledge and so open to progress and change and who was a ‘stone' who was the opposite. You will know who is who by and large in your teams but it's a good time with positive news on the business front gaining momentum to look at your team and get them looking at the future now.

We have run many performance management and team change workshops across the Region and Alison Green who heads up HR in the Region has undertaken some great work with businesses and teams to focus on change and development- getting the best out of your team - call us to discuss our work in this areas and how we can help you and your team be even more effective.

Don't forget yourself in all of this and a key issues is' who motivates the motivator?'.  We have answers for you here and again call us to discuss any issues.
