Stationers'' Livery Lecture: Blasphemy and Broadcasting in 2005

This year’s The Stationers Livery Company lecture welcomes Mark Thomspon, Director-General of the BBC since May 2004 after two and half years as Chief Executive of Channel 4. These are difficult times for the BBC. Its relationship with Government has been under much strain, the quality of its programming is frequently questioned, new technology, especially the Internet, threatens its markets and, on top of all this, it faces a review of its Royal Charter in 2006. The man charged with guiding the Corporation through these challenges is its recently appointed Mark Thompson. Mark has a wealth of knowledge and experience in broadcasting and its relationship with the printed media and his lecture is certain to be entertaining as well as informative. The lecture will be followed, as usual, with a dinner in the Court Room for those who wish to enjoy a full evening of Stationers’ hospitality. Numbers for the dinner will be limited to 90 and, in the past, these have filled up very quicklyso an early application is recommended to avoid disappointment. Price incl. VAT: £60.00 each) including dinner, or £20.00, lecture only. Places will be allotted strictly on a first come, first served basis. Stationers’ Hall, Monday 7th March 2005, 6.00pm for 6.30pm.
