Personnel Online features new section on World Cup employment issues

Sven Goran Eriksson is certain not to be the only manager with staff problems this World Cup, but at least his can be dealt with by a decent medical team and some inspired substitutions. But both printers and football coaches alike will need to be well-prepared, to anticipate the likely issues, and to deal with them in the best way possible when they do arise. The BPIF has added a special section to its Personnel Online service (available to BPIF gold and platinum members) that deals with issues such as: • Increased requests for holidays • Possible abuse of sick leave • Working time flexibility for national matches • Alcohol policies and policing • Dangers of exuberant celebrations • Disciplinary action BPIF Head of Legal Anne Copley emphasises the importance of making the experience of the World Cup as positive as possible, regardless of the performance of your national team: “The World Cup is a global event and cannot simply be ignored. It also provides an opportunity for boosting morale and team-building within the workplace. However, if not managed properly it could also lead to unexpected workplace problems that could have a far longer-term impact than Wayne Rooney’s metatarsal. The Personnel Online World Cup section (applicable to all special events) gives some practical advice on how to ensure the experience is a happy and, most importantly productive and profitable one.” BPIF Gold and platinum members can access the section by visiting www.britishprint.com/pol/contents. Silver members or non-members should contact their regional office at www.britishprint.com/contact/index.asp or call 0870 240 4085 for more information.
