Print buyers looking for FSC certified suppliers

Ten of the UK’s leading publishers have launched PREPS – the Publishers’ Database for Responsible Paper Sourcing – which will provide information to enable members to select paper from acceptable sources. The ten founding members of PREPS account for some 35% of the UK publishing market and include Penguin Group, Pearson Education, Reed Elsevier and Walker Books.

More and more publishers are choosing to print on papers that have been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and a spokesperson for the FSC said that the number of UK printers now FSC certified has grown rapidly in the last two years. With an increasing number of public sector tenders also asking for proven green credentials from suppliers, now is the time for printers to start looking into how to achieve accreditation.

Several BPIF members are receiving support to achieve the standards and practices necessary to gain certification to FSC and ISO 14001 from BPIF Business specialists. Click below to read about one member’s achievement.
