Blackmore Achieves Carbon Balanced Printer Certification

Blackmore Achieves Carbon Balanced Printer Certification

Shaftesbury-based printer, Blackmore Ltd, has just been certified as a Carbon Balanced Printer.  Blackmore is in the top 1% of printers in the UK to have achieved this certification. Blackmore Ltd has been Certified Carbon Balanced as it has measured its primary carbon emissions and balanced (offset) these impacts through World Land Trust’s global Carbon Balanced projects.

In addition to the Carbon Balanced certification, Blackmore has made further investments to reduce emissions. These investments include new solar panels, state-of-the-art energy-efficient print presses, a new air compressor, as well as changing the energy supply so that all the electricity used during production is from 100% renewable sources.

Blackmore’s certification has been granted by Carbon Co, a company that specialises in the print and paper industry working with printers to reduce and mitigate their carbon impacts, in partnership with World Land Trust. In line with the Paris Agreement, keeping the global temperature increase below 1.5 degrees C, Carbon Balanced Printers such as Blackmore Ltd, are committed to halving their scope 1 and scope 2 carbon emissions by 2030. To date, Carbon Co’s Carbon Balanced Print and Paper programme has enabled the World Land Trust to offset over 380,000 tonnes of CO2.  Contributions to the Carbon Balanced Programme are used to protect rich biodiverse land from deforestation and degradation, preventing the release of CO2 into the atmosphere while preserving invaluable, endangered ecosystems.

Managing Director of Blackmore Ltd, Andrew Robbins, said “We are delighted to be part of the top handful of UK Certified Carbon Balanced Printers.  We previously offered a carbon balanced paper service, although we wanted to go the extra mile, so we made the necessary measures to become a Carbon Balanced Printer. This means that not only are we committing to offsetting any carbon emissions through the World Land Trust, our customers can also benefit by including the World Land Trust Carbon Balanced Print logo on their relevant print projects created by Blackmore.  We can also generate certificates for our customers for individual jobs or specific timeframes, including details of the amount of CO2 that has been offset, as well as the amount of threatened World Land Trust land that is to be protected or restored.”

Andrew goes on to say “With the combination of our investments in the Carbon Balanced Printer certification, new solar panels, state-of-the-art print presses, renewable energy supply and partnership with greener suppliers, we are well on our way to achieving our goal of net-zero this decade.”

Paul Opie, Partnership Director at Carbon Co, said “Carbon Balanced Printers, such as Blackmore Ltd, are leaders in sustainability who recognise the critical and continuing need to reduce avoidable emissions wherever possible and take direct action. We are delighted to welcome Blackmore Ltd as a Certified Carbon Balanced Printer through our programme in partnership with World Land Trust.”

Formed in 1900, Blackmore has carved out a reputation as one of the UK’s leading green printers, winning several awards (including the Dorset Business Awards and Kodak Green Leaf Award) for its environmental credentials and also holds the ISO:14001 environmental certificate. The company is committed to achieving net-zero this decade. Blackmore works with a broad range of clients from large corporate companies and world-renowned charitable organisations to local, small-scale businesses. Blackmore is also working with local and national businesses on its new printed packaging service.
