PIROTO LABELLING CELEBRATES MILESTONES WITH LOCAL MP

PIROTO LABELLING CELEBRATES MILESTONES WITH LOCAL MP

Northampton North MP, Michael Ellis, recently visited leading label and tag maker Piroto Labelling to celebrate two huge milestones for the company – their 50th anniversary and their fundraising for Northampton’s Cynthia Spencer Hospice, which will reach £100,000 this month.

During the visit on 21 April, Michael was given a tour of the site by management, staff and apprentices, learning how a modern labelling business works and contributes to the economy on a local and national scale. He saw production in process, from label printing on presses through to finishing and boxing ready for delivery to customers.

A family business with 40 employees, Piroto makes millions of customisable labels and tags every year, for almost 300 customers in the UK and internationally – including Northampton Town FC and Northamptonshire Cricket. During the Covid pandemic, the company’s keyworker status saw it producing Covid test cards on a huge scale. Recently, they’ve worked on a major project to develop new allergy labels for food products, supporting people with life-threatening allergies

Michael also met recently qualified apprentices to talk about the benefits of a career in print and how to encourage more young people into manufacturing. Other issues discussed were energy price increases, the cost of living and how Government can support the industry to thrive. Working with their trade association, the British Printing Industries Federation, Piroto are helping ensure that Government and Parliament hear the voice of the printing industry.

Michael Ellis MP said:

“From sandwiches to medicines – and of course MPs’ letters to their constituents – printing and labelling is a big part of all our lives.

“It was fascinating to discover how a labelling business works, to find out more about how the everyday tags and labels we take for granted involve so much hard work at the printer.

"But there’s a lot more to it. Companies like Piroto Labelling are the backbone of our local and national economy, supporting the Government’s plans for levelling up by employing local staff and helping young people into apprenticeships.

"The Government is doing everything within its power to make it easier for businesses to start, grow and prosper and I will always be a strong advocate for our local small businesses.

Leigh Mann, Managing Director of Piroto Labelling, said:

"We were delighted to welcome Michael to Piroto, to help celebrate our 50th anniversary and our fundraising efforts for the Cynthia Spencer Hospice.

"It was a brilliant opportunity to show him how the labels we see on everyday items are actually made, and for him to meet the team who make it all happen.

It’s also essential we communicate how companies like ours – and the print industry as a whole – can be supported by Government.

"We were able to demonstrate that print is very much a live and kicking industry, making a significant contribution to the UK economy, as well as locally here in Northampton.”
