Adare Advantage switches to low migration ink

Apri 2014 - Adare Advantage has incorporated and successfully moved all UV based ink production to Zeller and Gmelin Uvaflex Y71 low migration inks, adhesives and varnishes.

The decision to make the change to Low Migration (LM) was made in September 2012, and has taken over a year to fully implement. The growing concerns over the hazards of chemicals transferring from printing inks and packaging material was a key motivator for the change. Ultimately, Adare Advantage decided that it was essential for clients to have complete confidence in the products they provide.

The operational change faced by the company was a challenging one. The first machine to use the inks was purchased in January 2013 and by October of the same year, the entire UV press base became fully LM.

The topic of ink migration has been debated in trade media and within organisations for a number of years. However, a number of organisations have come off as indifferent towards the industry printing guidelines. The main driver for the move was to comply with the EU standard EC1935/2004 and minimise the customer's risk of ink migration.
