WINNERS OF THE 2022 BRITISH BOOK DESIGN & PRODUCTION AWARDS ANNOUNCED

WINNERS OF THE 2022 BRITISH BOOK DESIGN & PRODUCTION AWARDS ANNOUNCED

The BPIF are pleased to announce the winners of the 2022 British Book Design & Production Awards, held at the stunning De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London on Wednesday 18 January.

There were 101 beautiful books on this year’s shortlist across 17 categories, with Kingsbury Press’s ‘Where Excellence is Elevated: 50 Hudson Yards’ stealing the spotlight and taking trophies for overall Book of the Year as well as its own category, Best British Book. Kingsbury Press also won an award in the Photographic Books category with ‘Ocean Photography Awards’. Another special mention goes to The Folio Society who were winners in four different categories.

The theme this year was ‘Unique, United’, demonstrated not only by the diversity of the entries, but also by the four judges this year, who brought their combined experience ranging from technical production to creative design to help them crown the winners.

We are always looking to inspire fresh talent in the industry, and our ever-popular student category was won by Christopher Potter from the University of the West of England, who took home the trophy for his creative book ‘Battle of the Green’.

The evening was hosted by BAFTA nominee Sam McAlister, best known for her work as interviews producer and “booker extraordinaire” on BBC Newsnight. A recent author herself with the release of her book ‘Scoops’, she was well-placed to host an evening in celebration of the design and craft of physical books.

Each guest took home a stunning Book of the Night, designed by EN-TE and printed by Halstan, with Diamond Print Services, which showcased the shortlisted and winning books – a collection of all the talent of all this year’s finalists.

Charles Jarrold, CEO of the BPIF, said “The UK book production market continues to go from strength to strength, and that’s reflected in the amazingly strong entries to this year’s BBDPAs.  It’s always brilliant to be able to celebrate the best in Book Production on a special evening with so many stunningly produced books. Well done to all who made it onto shortlists in a competitive field, and of course the winners on the night – it’s the sector’s mix of design creativity married to production brilliance that makes the UK sector so vibrant.”

The BPIF would like to thank this year’s judges, as well as the supporters and sponsors without whom the Awards wouldn’t be possible – BookMachine, Canon, Diamond Print Services, Halstan, IFS, Micropress, Mondi, Oxford Brookes University, The Printing Charity, The Bookseller and Winter & Company.

A huge congratulations all of this year’s winners and finalists. Details of the 2023 awards will be released in April.
