Winners of the 2019 British Book Design and Production Awards announced!
The 2019 British Book Design & Production Awards were held at The Landmark Hotel in London on Thursday 21 November.
A fantastic 101 books made it onto the shortlist, but only 19 winners could be crowned. 'North Northwest’, entered by Boss Print (Concentric Editions), was the star of the night, triumphing in the Best British Book category and winning the title of overall Book of the Year. The judges commented that “Even amongst the highest of competition, this entry captivated us. There was not one element that did not fit in. The book was seamlessly put together as a whole with beautiful production and design, making it a truly worthy winner.”
We are always overwhelmed by the student entries, and Kayleigh Munn was a truly deserved winner this year with her book ‘Vegas Baby’, with the judges commenting on the “huge level of maturity and professionalism” and the outstanding “innovative style and illustrations.”
The evening was hosted by Konnie Huq. Having recently released her illustrated Children’s novel, Cookie, a laugh-out-loud middle-grade sitcom combining her own comedic upbringing with madcap science projects in a contemporary London Bangladeshi household, Konnie shared not only her experiences but also her love for print and design.
The Awards exist to celebrate and treasure beautiful physical books and the craft that creates them and the evening did exactly this. Each attendee took home a Book of the Night, illustrated by Neil Webb and in partnership with thePageDesign, that showcased the talent of all this year’s finalists. The BPIF would like to send a big thank you to the 2019 judges and all of our supporters and sponsors who allow us to put on the Awards each year – Atlantic Print Solutions, Canon, Fedrigoni, IFS, Mondi, Muller Martini, Publiship, The Printing Charity, Winter & Co – and supporters, BookMachine, Oxford Brookes University, The Bookseller and The Publishers Association.
Congratulations to all of the worthy winners and finalists! Entries for the 2020 BBD&PAs will open in April.
