Zero Labels 2 Landfill Scheme certified

Zero Labels 2 Landfill Scheme certified

Prismm Environmental and BPIF Labels are proud to announce the launch of their Zero Labels 2 Landfill Certification. As many printers are now aware, Prismm Environmental successfully launched their Zero Labels 2 Landfill Scheme over 2 years ago, during which time they have established a UK wide infrastructure of print sites that are now diverting matrix and set-up waste from landfill to recovery.

Printers within the scheme qualify for the certificate and are able to use the logo on all business correspondence such as letter headers, e-mail signatures and business cards. Over 50 sites have successfully joined the scheme, all of which have been issued with their individual certificate. At the outset of the scheme, Prismm had established that the primary problem was applying a cost-effective solution for collecting small volumes of label waste from the individual print sites, leaving the UK printing industry landfilling around 120,000 tonnes each year. Prismm Environmental believes that no matter what excuses there are, such poor environmental credibility is not acceptable throughout an entire industry sector, as with PSL printing. This is being increasingly confirmed by brand owners and supermarkets putting pressure on the supply chain and their environmental standards.

Any printer could benefit from the service, with as a little as 700kg of label waste being cost effectively collected from even the smallest of print sites, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to divert their waste and help the industry achieve its environmental goals. The scheme is open to all printers, regardless of BPIF membership and Prismm welcomes an initial conversation or site audit to establish a sites requirements and like-for-like cost comparisons against their current arrangements.

Certificates are issued annually, once Prismm Environmental has confirm that a sites waste is being treated according to the scheme compliance requirements, BPIF Labels will issue a personalized certificate.

Both Prismm Environmental and BPIF Labels would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the scheme members for their achievements in not only raising their company's environmental credibility, but also contributing to that of the industry. A list of these companies is posted here:
