BPIF looks back on another sparkling year

BPIF looks back on another sparkling year

Published ahead of the BPIF’s AGM on 4 July, the Federation’s Annual Review for 2005-06 - Delivering Results, highlights the benefits BPIF members have received over the past twelve months and the achievements realised on their behalf. As BPIF President Dominic Walsh says in his overview: “this account of another sparkling year clearly demonstrates how the BPIF too has been working hard to improve its offering to its own customers – the membership. As we continue to offer added value amounting to many times the cost of subscription, a number of new services have been added to our portfolio. By working in partnership with other organisations we have been able to lever in expertise from outside the organisation for the benefit of members, and by working with Government we have been able to access funding and open up procurement opportunities. Halfway through my Presidency, I have good cause to feel proud of the breathtaking range of activities your Federation has been undertaking over the past year, and the results these have delivered”. Chief Executive Michael Johnson highlights several major initiatives that the BPIF has completed in the year, including the groundbreaking BPIF/Amicus partnership agreement and code of practice, launched in December, the technology study into the future of magazines and direct mail carried out in conjunction with Pira International, the new PAS 75 print production and service standard, the revised Print industry Strategic Plan, and the launch of BPIF Mediation, a new legal service that aims to help parties come to an amicable agreement rather than spend large sums of money with lawyers or in Court. Mr Johnson emphasises how the BPIF has upgraded its facilities and image, with the move of Midlands office to modern and more suitable 2500 square foot premises in Meriden and the launch of their new logo and strapline ‘making change positive’ at IPEX. The Annual Review examines a number of areas where the BPIF has delivered tangible results over the year, including providing first-class business support, bringing member together through members’ meetings and events, delivering health, safety and environmental best practice, influencing Government, working in partnership and setting standards. Although the BPIF continues to face tough financial constraints, and had to make some difficult decisions during the year, including the closure to future accrual of its remaining final salary pension scheme, the Federation remains in good health. Despite further rationalisation and consolidation in the industry, with some membership losses through mergers and closure, BPIF membership remains stable, with the range of services offered and the added value provided attracting 222 new members during the year.
