Taking Positive First Steps Towards Winning The War On Waste

November 2010 saw Vision in Print hold its 7th annual conference at the London Lancaster Hotel and proved to be an overwhelming success, with more than 130 delegates attending.

The conference topic was ‘WINNING THE WAR ON WASTE’ and demonstrated best practice in the key themes of applying smart technology, reducing material waste, benefiting from good environmental management, and engaging your team.

The Conference was packed with valuable insights and practical suggestions that you could be applied to any business and included ten case studies presentations from a wide range of presenters and companies the likes of Mike Owen, General Manager of Benson Box and Paul Holden, Chief Executive of Dobson & Crowther. Each speaker at the conference repeatedly emphasised the need for all printers to pay attention to developing core competencies in the way their organisations handle waste, so that they can grow and leverage maximum value out of their existing business. Each presentation focused on the practical experience gained by these companies in implementing best practice.

A particular highlight of the conference saw Lord Michael Heseltine deliver a compelling key note speech on the future role of UK Print.

He gave a wide ranging insightful review of the sector. In particular, he highlighted the transformation of the marketplace by technology, with the consequences for both publishers and marketers. Overall, he predicted that print will lose market share but that marketing communications will continue to grow and there are plenty opportunities for positive growth.

Making improvements in any one of these areas covered in the WINNING THE WAR ON WASTE conference would improve a business’s productivity, performance and profitability.

Having already worked with over 500 UK printers of all sizes and types, Vision in Print is focused on showing UK printer’s effective applications of ‘lean’ processes that can raise competitiveness and productivity.

It’s hard to think how else, printers can gain so much insight and practical help into developing, implementing and sustaining lean processes.
