The Napo series of films are produced in computer graphics and feature characters in the world of work, faced with safety issues, although positioned in a light-hearted way.

The main character and hero, Napo, and his colleagues express themselves in wordless language, symbolising an employee who could be working in the print and packaging sector.

Because the Napo films are language free, it allows people of all backgrounds and cultures to understand and identify with the character, from workplace operatives to senior management alike.

In the films, Napo often finds himself the victim of common situations over which he has no control, highlighting the hazards that can exist in the workplace. But he can identify hazards and risks and provide practical solutions or make suggestions to improve safety and work organisation. In this sense he is an ideal employee as he is actively involved in the risk assessment process.

Because Napo is a cartoon character he can explore areas that would not be possible in drama or documentary films. He is indestructible and everlasting, unlike the workers we are trying to protect. DUST AT WORK

CATEGORIES - DUST; MACHINERY; PPE; DANGROUS SUBSTANCES

Dust is a potential problem in the workplace in two different but significant ways: respiratory problems and dust explosions. The harmful effects of dust can vary from skin irritation to lung cancer depending on the composition of the dust, and the type and degree of exposure.

"Napo in... dust at work" illustrates some of the many situations and substances that generate dust and emphasises the importance of controlling exposure to dust at work to avoid ill health. The film ends with a bang - a dust explosion - the rapid combustion of fine particles suspended in the air often, but not always, in an enclosed space.
