National Negotiations - Basis of settlement to be considered by National Council

A basis of settlement for a national agreement to operate from 24 April 2008 was reached on Friday 15 February 2008.  In the view of your negotiating team the settlement is the best that can be achieved by negotiation at national level.

The settlement provides for a wage increase of £9.60 per week for Craft/Class I employees; £8.64 for Class II and £7.87 for Class III, and is calculable for shift and overtime payments.

The new National Minimum Grade Rates will be:

Craft/Class I £280.96
Class II
£253.77
Class III £238.09

The new Minimum Earnings Guarantee will be £245.82

Unite the union has reaffirmed that the cost of the settlement can be recovered in full by efficiency and productivity improvements at company level in line with the Partnership at Work Agreement.  Further, a joint statement relating to cost recovery and continuous improvement is attached. The cost of the settlement will vary from company to company, and it is suggested that you calculate the cost for your own business. The BPIF can assist you to do this if necessary.

It must be emphasised that no final agreement has yet been signed.  The basis of settlement will be considered by the BPIF’s National Council on 12 March 2008. Unite the union Negotiation Committee are recommending that the union’s members accept the terms on ballot.

No action should be taken to implement the terms until notification is received that they have been accepted by both parties.
