Paper prices Sept 06

Coated paper prices in August stabilised in the UK and softened slightly in Europe. Over-supply is still an issue despite capacity reductions and may well thwart supplier attempts to increase prices in September. Uncoated paper prices have not been affected by the coated sector. There were no price movements in the UK or Europe during August and there is little evidence of downward pressure. Prices for coated and uncoated mechanical remain steady. Attempted increases earlier in the year did not hold but demand is healthy enough to prevent any deflation. Following July's increase of over 3% white-line chipboard prices have been static in August. BPIF members can access a range of data on UK and European paper price indices on the Printdata website
