Directors? duties bill passes first reading
A private members bill that aims to put pressure on the government to place specific legal duties for health and safety on company directors, has successfully completed its first reading in parliament. If adopted, the proposed Company Directors (Health and Safety) Bill would place a new legal duty on companies to appoint an individual director with responsibility for health and safety. This director would be responsible for monitoring the company?s health and safety position, and informing the organisation?s board of its progress on health and safety. In addition, the bill would require directors to take effective steps to ensure that their firm complies with health and safety law.For further information on the Company Directors? (Health and Safety) Bill go to Ross Cranston?s website at www.rosscranston.labour.co.uk.
