Fire in the workplace - Alarming facts

Fire in the workplace - Alarming factsLast year 643 people died and 18,170 were injured last year as a result of fire. Also over 70% of businesses involved in a major fire either do not reopen or subsequently fail within three years of fire. These statistics are made even more alarming by the fact that there are 128 fires in the workplace every day and 67% of all fires occur at times when buildings are closed! To help members reduce the risk of fire we will be holding a series of events during 2003 covering all aspects fire safety, such as Fire Risk Assessment training, the New Fire Order and Fire Warden training, in conjunction with Chubb the global leader in fire protection and security. The first course we will be holding is a practical fire safety course. Nothing actually beats hands-on training so members of staff feel confident in tackling a small fire. This face-to-face course combines theoretical tuition and practical hand on experience in selecting and using an extinguisher and other action to take should a fire break out.The courses will be held in Manchester 24 March and Birmingham 7 April 2003 in our regional offices. The cost to members will be £95. If you are interested and would like further details please contact Dale Wallis on (0161) 886 8412 or Liz Cheetham on (0161) 886 8413.
