HSE Targeted Enforcement Initiative

03 March 2005

Manual Handling represents the number one cause of reported accidents in printing and publishing, however enforcement in this area has traditionally been less than 3% of all enforcement notices issued. The Printing Industry Advisory Committee Report for 2004 announced that in 2005/2006 HSE EMAS Inspectors will be carrying out a targeted enforcement initiative specifically to inspect the standards of manual handling provision. Where standards are found to be below the legal minimum, enforcement action will be considered. If you need help with any aspect of manual handling including on site training for your employees please telephone, email or fax the health and safety team.
