BPIF Members Day 2012 highlights the federation's key achievements over the past year

BPIF Members Day 2012 highlights the federation's key achievements over the past year

This year's event, held at Church House Conference Centre on 11 July, began with the CEO'S Conference where members enjoyed a number of engaging presentations from speakers. These included Mark Lawn, Canon UK & European Marketing Director, who presented Canon's Bigger Picture Report - the value of print to your customers, and Richard Gibson, who provided lots of food for thought during his interactive Leadership Workshop.

Following the chief executive's conference, BPIF president Tony Garnish presented Ryedale's John Buffoni with an Award for Outstanding Contribution to the UK Printing Industry for transforming Ryedale from a simple commercial printer into a world leader.

During his accolade, Tony said, "John is a man of great vision and sound judgement but is best described as an unconventional businessman".

The BPIF's Chief Executive, Kathy Woodward, went on to highlight the federation's significant achievements in important areas for improvement during the year. One of 2012's big successes was the move from the previous Farringdon Point headquarters to new offices in Hooper Street, which will save the organisation a total of £1m over the next three years.

She went on to say that the restructuring of the board and strengthening of regional divisions was a difficult yet vital factor in reinforcing the purpose of the association. She said, "Now absolutely everybody is bringing fresh ideas and innovation. Everyone on the board has made really strong contributions."

Key steps have been taken over the last year to increase networking opportunities, training and development programmes, and there has been an emphasis for us to engage in more lobbying activities.

Kathy referred to the areas BPIF will continue to commit to, such as the launch of a new Executive Exchange portal, a new graduate level management qualification, and the availability of individual membership later this year.

The day concluded with the All-Party Parliamentary Print Group's event at the House of Lords, where the eight winners of the 2012 Print Futures Awards were presented with their cheques to further fund their studies and development in print.
