In it to win it! - Olympic Associated Print Work Survey

With the recent news of more Olympic souvenirs and merchandise being produced in China, and with the BPIF's continued interest in the number of opportunities provided to UK printers by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) the BPIF last week carried out a survey amongst our members to establish how many had bid for and won Olympic-related print work.

The survey focused on just three questions; Had members bid for any Olympic associated print work? Had they won any Olympic associated print work? Were they working on Olympic associated print work through a third party?

The survey revealed that even though UK Printing had previously lost a £16m Olympic ticket printing contract to a US firm and further souvenirs and merchandise contracts to China that a high number of UK printers had successfully bid for work.

Out of 514 responses to the survey, 112 companies bid for work and of the 112, 90 won their bids.

BPIF CEO, Kathy Woodward said: "I was tremendously disappointed that they didn't engineer for the tickets to be printed in the UK. They had such a long lead time on it that if there had really been a will they could have done it here.

"But I am heartened that so many printers that appear to have bid for work have been successful and looking at the tremendous quality of work that is out there it is a great advert for the British printing industry."
