Countryside Book Is This Year's Winner!

The British Book Design and Production Awards were unveiled on 8 November at a spectacular Alice in Wonderland-themed event at the Lancaster London Hotel. Guests were entertained all evening by characters from this well known children's book. Comedian Tony Hawks, author of Round Ireland with a Fridge, presented the awards to each delighted winner.

The victors included a book on the British countryside which was named Book of the Year at this flagship event in the industry. A Book of Britain was selected to win the prize out of the winners of 16 other categories at the awards, supported by the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF), Oxford Brookes University and The Publisher's Association.

Over 400 books were entered this year for the awards, which are designed to represent everything that is best in British book design and are seen as the flagship event in the industry's year.

This year the judges were also very impressed with the entries for the Best Student Book award, which was open to anyone studying full-time or part-time on a recognised publishing, printing or design-based course within the UK.

BPIF Director of Membership Dale Wallis commented "The quality of the awards this year was superb and we were delighted with the fantastic amount of entries and the brilliant production standards. The fantastic standard of entries meant that the judges had a tougher choice than ever in deciding on the final list. The awards ceremony was a highly memorable night and it was wonderful to see the creativity of the entrants being rewarded. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the winners on their success. It was also encouraging to see the number of student entries triple this year, great news for a great industry".
