Lucky BPIF member takes home the best of British book design and production

The 2015 British Book Design and Production Awards, organised by the BPIF, showcased a beautiful range of book entrants and winners. It highlighted what the print sector can offer publishers to help them differentiate their books and create a fantastic reading experience.

Following the fantastic event, the BPIF launched a competition for a lucky person to win a selection of the ceremony's winning books. The categories of books ranged from Limited Edition and Fine Binding to Interactive Multimedia Books and are - of course - sure to look fantastic on any coffee table or bookcase.

The competition ran throughout December and the lucky winner was Fergal Doyle, HR and H&S Manager at Delta Packaging.

On receiving the news, Fergal said he was, "Surprised and genuinely delighted. While you always hope to win, I don't think you ever really expect it. I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of The Little Boy Who Lost His Name for one very specific - if obvious - reason: to see the expression on my 6 year old's face, the sparkle in his eyes when he sees his name in a book!"

When asked to what extent the design of a book affects his decision to buy, he said "Regarding general perusing, and particularly where [my] children are concerned, the design tends to be what draws you to the book initially - the 'pick me' factor! Thereafter, you of course decide if it's suitable but for that first all important 'pull' of a book cover is of paramount significance. The tangibility of a book - that it can be held, the pages turned - for me provides a refreshing respite in the midst of a world of screens. Maybe there's more than a touch of nostalgia, of harking back to simpler times!"

The 2016 call for entries will open in April. Follow @BBDPAwards on Twitter for further information.
