Join the BPIF's CCL reduction scheme and reduce the tax imposed on green energy in the recent budget

Join the BPIF's CCL reduction scheme and reduce the tax imposed on green energy in the recent budget

The recent announcement in the budget has significantly increased the cost of buying green energy. Previously green energy was exempt from the Climate Change Levy (CCL) and although it was usually more expensive at least it didn't have the levy imposed. Therefore companies keen to promote their green credentials had an incentive to do so.

However since the budget all this has changed and green energy will now attract the standard climate change levy rates of 0.554 pence per kWh on electricity and 0.193 pence per kWh on gas.

This means a company using a million kWh's of electricity will now have to pay an extra £5,540 and a company using a million kWhs of gas an extra £1,930 every year.

The good news is that by joining the BPIF's CCL reduction scheme a printing company can reduce this dramatically. The reductions available are 90% of the levy on electricity and 65% on gas, thereby, using the example, reducing the levy from £7,470 to £1,230.

So whether you are buying green energy or not, if your energy spend is significant it may pay you to join the BPIF's CCL reduction scheme.

And if you still want to be green don't forget you can provide your customers with a carbon footprint for all your products by using ClimateCalc. The BPIF's online carbon calculator tool that's international, print specific and easy to use.
