BPIF lobby against a full review of the working time directive
Following a first round of consultations, the BPIF have urged the Commission to refrain from conducting a full review of the directive, as, in its current state, it is sufficient in guaranteeing workers' health and safety. However, the BPIF have asked for the following principles to be applied in case of a review:
- Defining on-call time in the directive, distinguishing between active and inactive, whereby all inactive on-call time is not counted as working time
- Clarifying that compensatory rest is to be taken with a reasonable period.
- Clarifying that the annual leave provisions aim to allow workers to rest from work, not other periods of absence and that the directive allows member states to make paid annual leave dependent on attendance at work.
- Member states should be free to define how holiday pay should be calculated.
