Profiting through Digital Printing in the Decor Marketplace

Profiting through Digital Printing in the Decor Marketplace

Decorative printing has long been a way for businesses and consumers to surround themselves with texture and color rich materials at work, at home, or public spaces. The desire to customize our working and living spaces is a powerful driver that spells a wide-ranging need for decorative printing in several key applications including ceramic tile, glass, textile, sign & display, laminates, functional, flooring, and wall covering.

InfoTrends' recently completed study, Profiting through Digital Printing in the Décor Marketplace, is part of a series of research projects that over time will cover the main methods and applications using digital technologies for industrial decorative printing. In this study, a series of in-depth interviews and surveys allows InfoTrends to examine the sentiment of the Architect & Interior Design community, and quantify the opportunity for printing industry suppliers such as equipment, software and materials manufacturers.

Some key findings from this study include:

  • Many A&D Companies are aware of digital decorative printing, and are becoming aware of the benefits it can bring in the design of customized for public and personal use
  • Décor material producers gravitate to digital printing in order to offer high value added customized solutions and improve production efficiency
  • Successful producers have reengineered their manufacturing processes to meet changing customer demand for mass customized products
  • Key barriers for adoption remain capital investment needed for a large scale operation  transitioning from conventional to digital manufacturing platforms
