The BPIF's EcoPrint London Project Reaches its Targets

The BPIF's EcoPrint London Project Reaches its Targets

The BPIF is celebrating reaching its ERDF targets to provide over 150 London Printers with fully funded environmental advice and accreditation.

The BPIF had identified that many smaller printing companies in the capital were in danger of losing business from existing customers or were struggling to get on suppliers lists, because they couldn't demonstrate they were taking environmental issues seriously.

These companies found obtaining environmental standards either too expensive or too time consuming, so there was a need for an alternative approach. The BPIF therefore proposed a solution supported by its partner in the scheme. It offered 13 hours of environmental support, enabling the company to produce an environmental policy a prioritised action plan and finally receive the independently verified Carbon Smart Blue Award.

Steve Walker the project manager for the BPIF said, 'The response was fantastic. The simplicity and practicality of the approach had gone down extremely well and the reaction from the delegates had been unanimously positive.'

Liberty Services was one of the first companies to sign up and its chairman Gavin Reddin said, 'the process uses a very simple and direct approach based around an action plan that everyone can buy into.'

The project was fully funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the BPIF were tasked with taking 150 companies through the process.

The Chairman of the project steering group, John Pulford, MBE, said he was 'delighted that so many companies took time out to benefit from the scheme. It was a vindication of all the hard work in setting up EcoPrint London and rolling it out to printers in the capital.
