It is with great sadness we inform you that Kathy Woodward, BPIF Chief Executive, passed away on the 21 August 2014.
Kathy was a phenomenal business woman whose career embraced the IT, Telecoms and Print Industries. Not one to be led, Kathy was unafraid to make waves and consistently strived for both her businesses and staff to reach their full potential.

On the 2 July 2014 BPIF Members' Day returned to Church House Conference Centre in Westminster. It began with a Level 5 Graduate Management Programme workshop for the future leaders of our industry. Kathy Woodward, CEO BPIF, guided delegates through theories of organisational development, encouraging them to analyse their decision-making process whilst looking at the fundamentals of HR, organisation design and strategy through to implementation.

BPIF responds to Insolvency Service consultation on strengthening the regulatory framework and fee structure for Insolvency Practitioners

On 21 March the BPIF responded to an Insolvency Service consultation paper on strengthening the regulatory framework and fee structure for Insolvency Practitioners (IPs). Welcoming the proposed reforms set out in the paper, the BPIF expresses support for the Government's aim of assisting creditors in insolvency situations by simplifying the fee structure to align the interests of IPs more closely to those of creditors, which it believes should increase returns to the latter. It also stresses that the proposed reforms are essential to restoring public confidence in the handling of insolvencies and in helping to ensure that the profession delivers the best possible outcomes for creditors.

This year's Budget is a good one for manufacturers. Together with other leading trade associations, we argued the case for reducing the rising cost of energy and the Chancellor has responded with a £7bn support package. We have also stressed the need to strengthen the competiveness of UK businesses and this too has been recognised, with other measures announced to boost investment, exports and skills.

It is clear apprenticeship programmes work and provide a viable route to a successful career. They also benefit businesses; 96% of employers that take on an apprentice report benefits to their business. Offering apprenticeships can provide a business with a pipeline of fresh recruits and can ensure that skills and experiences are passed on through your workforce, from experienced employees to the younger generation.

This project that was instigated by BPIF labels and PRISMM Environmental back in April 2013 is now gathering momentum. The project, designed to reduce the amount of production waste going to landfill by diverting this waste to energy recovery, is now showing signs of success.
