Ouput and orders exceeded expectation in Q4 - positive forecast for Q1 as some confidence returns

A better-than-expected seasonal boost in Q4 meant that both output and orders surpassed their Q4 forecasts – expectations for Q1 also remain positive. The latest Printing Outlook survey reveals that the majority of printers (56%) increased their output levels in the final quarter of 2015.

Confidence hit in Q3 despite growth in output and orders - speedy recovery expected in Q4

Positive growth in the third quarter of the year ensured that output exactly matched the forecast provided in Q2; similarly the orders forecast was equally accurate, although here orders growth was lower in Q3 than in Q2. According to the latest Printing Outlook survey, more printers in Q3 were able to increase output (49% compared to 41% in Q2).

Establishment of an expert pool to scrutinise pre-packs sales to connected parties

Teresa Graham CBE's Graham Report recommended that creditor and insolvency organisations should develop a process to independently scrutinise sales to connected parties. This recommendation is being taken forward by a steering group of representatives from the various interested organisations including the BPIF.

BPIF call for further industry input in apprenticeship trailblazer

In March 2015, we announced that the employer-led submission to develop new apprenticeship standards for the printing industry had been successful. James Buffoni of Ryedale Group and the Chair for the winning consortium, is currently in the process of leading a group of print employers and leading sector organisations, including the BPIF, in designing the new apprenticeship print standards for Pre-Press Operator, Press Operator and Post-Press Operator.

The second quarter of the year pushed on with an improved output performance – above expectations – but a slower rate of growth in orders. Compared to Q1, more printers in Q2 were able to increase output (41% compared to 33%), according to the latest Printing Outlook survey.

Another record year for the Print Futures Awards

The 2015 Print Futures Awards received a record 80 entries and the 37 winners, the highest number since the Awards were launched in 2003, received their cheques at The Printing Charity’s industry event kindly hosted by Baroness Dean of Thornton-le-Fylde at the House of Lords on 23 July 2015.
