The second quarter of the year pushed on with an improved output performance – above expectations – but a slower rate of growth in orders. Compared to Q1, more printers in Q2 were able to increase output (41% compared to 33%), according to the latest Printing Outlook survey.

Another record year for the Print Futures Awards

The first budget under a pure Conservative Government for nearly 20 years promised to put Britain firmly on the path from a high tax, high welfare society to a lower tax, lower welfare society. For businesses the budget offered reduced corporation tax, permenant investment allowances and plans to cut National Insurance contributions. Delivery of quality apprenticeships is an issue that is of real relevance and concern to our members - we’re therefore particularly pleased to see the manifesto commitment to 3 million apprenticeships reiterated - more below.

BPIF Apprentices launch campaign to highlight to schools the increased appeal of apprenticeships to their school leavers

On Friday the 20 of February the BPIF gathered together 11 print apprentices from member companies at their London offices. The task was to work with a designer to produce a piece of collateral in aid of National Apprenticeship Week to promote apprenticeships in the print industry to schools. With the current average age in the print industry at 48 the apprentices set to work designing a piece of collateral that they felt would attract young school leavers into print.

Q3 proved to be a positive environment for growth in output and orders – both showed a slight improvement on their Q2 status. Almost half (49%) of printers increased output in the third quarter of 2014 according to the latest BPIF Printing Outlook survey.
