BPIF Launch Graduate Management Programme

The BPIF launched its Graduate Management Programme for professionals in print and media on the 30 of April at The Tower - A Guoman Hotel in London. 160 learners attended the day event which was deemed a success by all.  Ellis Watson, CEO of DC Thomson & Co Ltd and motivational speaker, urged all learners to be 'just that bit better and enthusiastic, dynamic and candid in the workplace'.  Learners were introduced to their mentors and the programme was explained in detail.

On 6th February BPIF labels held their AGM at the offices of CPI (Centre for Process Innovation Limited) in Sedgefield. In total 20 label converters and suppliers attended. At the AGM Chairman John Bambery informed those present of the achievements that have been made over the past 12 months. We have held 2 well supported technical seminars and published a definitive Good Manufacturing Guide for the printing of labels and related packaging for the food, drinks and sensitive products sectors. This guide sought to address the issues surrounding ink migration. For the coming year there will be 2 technical seminars which will be incorporated with the 2 annual golf days.

In 2007 the Boards of both the British Office Supplies & Services Federation [BOSS] and the British Printing Industries Federation [BPIF] agreed a five year Association Management Contract between the two Federations. Whilst each retained their separate legal status with two separate Boards of Directors, BOSS outsourced their administration, support, products and services to the BPIF.

The BPIF's EcoPrint London Project Reaches its Targets

The BPIF is celebrating reaching its ERDF targets to provide over 150 London Printers with fully funded environmental advice and accreditation.

The BPIF had identified that many smaller printing companies in the capital were in danger of losing business from existing customers or were struggling to get on suppliers lists, because they couldn't demonstrate they were taking environmental issues seriously.

BPIF criticises Home Office plans to rely on internet to publish information on police commissioner election candidates

The BPIF has criticised Home Office plans to rely solely on a central website to host information about candidates for the forthcoming Police Commissioner elections, warning that they will disadvantage people who have low levels of internet access such as the elderly and those who live in rural areas. In a letter to Policing and Criminal Justice Minister Nick Herbert MP this week BPIF CEO Kathy Woodward urges the Home Office to reconsider this proposal, which it describes as "ill-advised" and "to the detriment of due democratic process".

Last week throughout the country events have been held to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week.

On Friday 10th February 2012 BPIF Chief Executive Kathy Woodward met with local MPs Stephen Metcalfe and Margaret Hodge at Precision Printing in Barking to celebrate their three latest apprentice entrants and to support a campaign on behalf of the BPIFs three hundred apprentices to raise awareness of the printing industry to local MPs in all of the constituencies where they are employed.

Printers saw some measure of improvement in trade in the final quarter of last year with both demand and output rising on balance, according to the latest BPIF Printing Outlook survey results covering the three-month period from October to December 2011.This positive result is qualified by the survey’s finding that both indicators remain below the levels previously forecast.
