A BPIF and Prismm waste initiative that your customers will find engaging
Zero Labels 2 Landfill Scheme and Zero Foil 2 Landfill Scheme: Two environmentally led waste initiatives by the BPIF and Prismm.
How long do you think it would take for a single reel of matrix waste to decompose once landfilled, when it takes at least 450 years for a single plastic bottle to decompose?
It's estimated that approximately 120,000 tonnes of label waste is landfilled each year and we now can do something about this with the BPIF Prismm Zero labels 2 Landfill scheme
- One primary problem to date has been establishing cost effective solutions for recovering label waste from individual print sites.
- Brand owners and supermarkets are to a greater extent putting pressure on the supply chain, ever increasing landfill costs and environmental focus from all areas of business.,
- We have come up with a cost effective solution for the labels sector.
Prismm Environmental in conjunction with BPIF Labels launched the Zero 2 Landfill project.
You can benefit from the service, with as a little as 700kg of label waste being cost effectively collected.
Around 60 print sites are now members of the scheme and have collectively contributed to over 43,000 tonnes of label waste being diverted from landfill since the scheme started. All members receive certification, issued by BPIF, and are able to use the ZL2L logo on company media and marketing.
For further information please visit the website; www.zerolabels2landfill.com
Benefits include:
- Potential reduced waste costs.
- Certification form BPIF on achieving scheme membership.
- Open use of the Zero Labels 2 Landfill logo on all company media, marketing, e-mails etc.
- Total waste management compliance and reporting.
Zero Foil 2 Landfill Scheme
In-line with the ongoing success and benefits to the Label Industry, Prismm Environmental and the BPIF have launched Zero Foil 2 Landfill; A scheme which is focused on ensuring foil waste is diverted from landfill to either recycling or energy recovery.
With waste foil being produced at Print Finishers, Label Printers and Packaging Printers, the scheme covers a wide range of waste formats and has primary consideration to production methods and cost efficiencies. All foil waste collected within the scheme is 100% diverted from landfill.
Unlike label waste, which is laminated substrates with glues, foil waste is primarily polyester and therefore open to other treatment markets, including export for recycling. The principles of the service are the same, with small volumes of waste being cost effectively collected from even the smallest of print sites, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to contribute diverting their waste and helping the industry achieve its environmental goals.
All members receive certification, issued by BPIF, and are able to use the ZF2L logo on company media and marketing.
Benefits include:
- Potential reduced waste costs.
- Certification form BPIF on achieving scheme membership.
- Open use of the Zero Foil 2 Landfill logo on all company media, marketing, e-mails etc.
- Total waste management compliance and reporting.

Slight recovery of output and orders falls short of expectations in Q4 - confidence concerns mount in 2024
22 February 2024
Performance in the UK's printing and printed packaging industry did improve in Q4, as far as output and orders are concerned. However, it didn't come close to what would historically be considered the seasonal norm, nor quite match the subdued expectations for Q4.
The BPIF is the printing industries champion. By becoming a member you join a diverse and influential community. We help you solve business problems, connect you to new customers and suppliers and make your voice heard in government.
