Apogee team to take on the English Channel to raise money for Global’s Make Some Noise

A group of seven staff from Apogee are preparing to swim the English Channel as a relay team to raise money for the organisation's chosen charity, Global's Make Some Noise.

The English Channel is about 21 miles across at the nearest points, but most swimmers have to travel much further. The challenges of tides, currents, ships, weather conditions and jellyfish make this one of the toughest open water swims. Throughout the challenge each team member will swim for an hour before handing over to their team mate to do the next hour, repeating this process until they finish in France.

Gary Downey, Group Marketing Director at Apogee and a member of the Channel Swim team, said "Swimming as a relay team we will conquer the most famous sea crossing in the world, raising valuable funds for Global's Make Some Noise charity which supports young people living with illness, disability and lack of opportunity across the UK."

"The team have been training hard over the summer ahead of the swim on 23 September. It is a first-time attempt for everyone in the team so we are all nervous about what we are going to encounter, however we are really looking forward to the satisfaction of walking up the beach in France and knowing we have done something extraordinary to help those who can't help themselves."
