Paper prices Sept 06
Coated paper prices in August stabilised in the UK and softened slightly in Europe. Over-supply is still an issue despite capacity reductions and may well thwart supplier attempts to increase prices in September. Uncoated paper prices have not been affected by the coated sector. There were no price movements in the UK or Europe during August and there is little evidence of downward pressure. Prices for coated and uncoated mechanical remain steady. Attempted increases earlier in the year did not hold but demand is healthy enough to prevent any deflation. Following July's increase of over 3% white-line chipboard prices have been static in August. Slight recovery of output and orders falls short of expectations in Q4 - confidence concerns mount in 2024
22 February 2024
Performance in the UK's printing and printed packaging industry did improve in Q4, as far as output and orders are concerned. However, it didn't come close to what would historically be considered the seasonal norm, nor quite match the subdued expectations for Q4.
